Whistling Buoy 2015 Canterbury Chardonnay and Pinot Noir

17-Aug-2016
The Pattinson family run The Crater Rim Winery based in Charteris Bay at the head of Lyttelton Harbour, Banks Peninsula. Neill and Jill are personally responsible for their 4 ha ‘Kokolo’ vineyard established in 2003, planted to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, and acquired by them in 2012. They also have the ‘Half Acre Block’ established as an indicator site in 2000. The viticulture is under the care of Cliff Woods and the wines made at the Muddy Water facility. The Pattinsons have no connection with the Crater Rim winery in Waipara, and point out that their location makes them the true Crater Rim! Their wines are branded ‘Whistling Buoy’, named after the original buoy marking the entrance into Lyttelton Harbour. Here, I review the 2015 Chardonnay and Pinot Noir wines from the ‘Kokolo’ vineyard which show the good 2015 vintage. www.whistlingbuoy.co.nz
