Wairau River ‘Reserve’ 2016 Sauvignon Blanc and 2015 Pinot Noir

04-Oct-2016
Phil and Chris Rose will be proud to see the fruits of their labour which began in 1978 when they were among the pioneers of grapegrowing in Marlborough. Since then the business has grown enormously, and family own nine vineyards totalling around 285 ha of vines and operate a modern winery, as well as one of the most popular cellar door-restaurant facilities in the region. The business is in the hands of the second generation and extended family, and the wines made are classical expressions of variety and region. The ‘Reserve’ tier wines are of particularly high quality. Here, I review the ‘Reserve’ 2016 Sauvignon Blanc and 2015 Pinot Noir wines, which show a different approach to the ‘Estate’ wines of the same vintage I tasted recently (click here to see my reviews). The ‘Reserve’ Sauvignon Blanc is a wine of great finesse, and the ‘Reserve’ Pinot Noir is a step up in richness. www.wairauriverwines.com
