Wairau River ‘Reserve’ 2015 Viognier and Chardonnay, and 2014 Syrah

23-May-2016
The Wairau River wines are sourced from family estate Marlborough vineyards first established by Phil and Chris Rose in 1978. One of the region’s earliest grapegrowers, they developed their own label to produce wines under the ‘Estate’ and ‘Reserve’ tiers from 9 vineyards totalling approx. 285 ha. Planted in the main to the classical and successful varieties, they have been keen to explore new varieties as well. The business is well and truly in the hands of the second generation, who are making it a successful producer of some of the top wines of the region. Here, I review three ‘Reserve’ wines, the 2015 Viognier and Chardonnay, and 2014 Syrah. www.wairauriverwines.com
