Waimea Estates has continued its winning way with assistant winemaker Trudy Sheild stepping into the head winemaker's role with the departure of Mike Brown. Trudy leads an all-woman team in the winery, supplied by 140 ha of vines overseen by Ben Bolitho, general manager and son of founders Trevor and Robyn Bolitho. The most recent awards have been a Regional Trophy at the Decanter World Wine Awards for the 2010 Sauvignon Blanc and a pure gold medal at the 2011 Bragato Wine Awards for the 2011 Sauvignon Blanc. The release of a ‘naturally low alcohol' Sauvignon Blanc (reviewed here) will therefore be of particular interest. www.waimeabrands.com
