Vynfields Martinborough Pinot Noir 2013

19-Nov-2015
Since Harry and Zinder Guo and their syndicate of family and friends took over Vynfields in February last year, they’re retained the organic and biodynamic status of the vineyards, as well as the winemaking of Marion Deimling to ensure consistency and quality of the wines. As they have increased the proportion of wines exported to the Asian market, they’ve made some interesting concessions to meet the demands there, most noticeably the return to natural cork closure. Of course, the New World has embraced screwcap, but it is easy to forget that the majority of the fine wine buying world sees cork as a sign of quality. A recent discussion with Jimmy Guo, who has day-to-day responsibility and lives on-site, was to have bottlings under both cork and screwcap closures. It’s the obvious move! Here, I review the Vynfields ‘Estate’ Pinot Noir 2013, sealed with natural cork. www.vynfields.com
