Borthwick Wairarapa Sauvignon Blanc 2010Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand - Wairarapa & WellingtonReview Date : 10-Feb-2011Fruit from the Borthwick Estate on Dakins Road, Gladstone, cool-fermented to 13.8% alc. and 2.0 g/L rs. Very pale straw-yellow colour with green hues. This has a dense and deep nose of ripe passionfruit and gooseberries, soft but well-concentrated and with some bean-like nuances adding interest. Dry on palate, this has a soft richness and plenty of weight. Ripe melon and passionfruit flavours with some pungency show. The acidity is relatively restrained, yet the wine remains fresh. Drink this over the next 2 years with herb marinated poultry and pork dishes. 17.0+/20 Feb 2011 RRP $23.99
Villa Sandi Piave Pinot Grigio DOC 2009Pinot Gris from Italy - VenetoReview Date : 10-Feb-2011Pale straw-yellow with a light edge to the colour, this has a clean and fresh, waxy bouquet of stonefruits, minerals and nuts. Dry and softly textured on the palate, this wine has good weight and a degree of presence that many Pinot Grigio wines lack. The nutty, stonefruit flavours have a delicate sweetness, and the acidity level is not high, allowing the wine to finish with a easy flow. Villa Sandi is a renowned wine producer with a classic range of still and sparkling wines. The Pinot Grigio fruit is from the Piave area in the province of Treviso in Veneto, fermented to 12.5% alc. and 6.0 g/l rs, and given lees contact. Serve with seafood, cold meats and soft cheeses over the next 3 years. 18.0-/20 Feb 2011 RRP $26.99
