Villa Maria’s New Reserve Traditional Reds

02-Aug-2011
It seems that Villa Maria is on an all-conquering path with its wines. For all of its life, Villa Maria has been able to craft wines that are the best of their category if show success is anything to go by. In Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, the Bordeaux varietals and Pinot Noir, Villa Maria's wines have no rivals that can match them in consistency. Similarly with the aromatic whites, Syrah, and even sparkling wine, the best is in their sights. The release of two ‘Reserve' red wines signal other areas where this exceptional producer is venturing. They are a Grenache, the variety of the hot regions of the southern Rhone, France, Spain (and Australia!), and Malbec, the variety that is the base of Cahors and the star performer in Argentina. Traditional varieties to be sure, but new, somewhat untested, and not generally accepted or understood by the consumer. Villa Maria is truly an innovator. www.villamaria.co.nz
