Two Gates Releases under Rod McDonald

30-Jul-2013
The ‘Two Gates’ brand was acquired last year by Rod McDonald. The original wines were sourced from an 18 ha site in the Gimblett Gravels, and the 2008 and 2009 vintages were sold quickly through the market. Now coming under the growing Rod McDonald umbrella, ‘Two Gates’ is now based at Rod’s Maraekakaho vineyard, where it will continue with the philosophy of organic viticulture, the site currently in conversion to BioGro accreditation. Rod has expanded the range beyond that of only reds, and is keen to see the wines "have a strong sense of place and individual character”. The last year has seen the Rod McDonald portfolio come together, his ‘Quarter Acre’, ‘Te Awanga Estate’ and ‘Blanket Hills’ ranges become prominent, joining the ‘No. 8 Wines’ and ‘One Off’ labels. This is another indication that Rod McDonald is going places. The gates have been opened (excuse the pun), and he’s off! www.rmwines.co.nz
