Two Degrees Central Otago Pinot Noir 2013

Richard and Di Somerville established their Two Degrees vineyard in the Queensberry region at the northern end of Lake Dunstan by planting 15,000 Pinot Noir vines in 2003. The 6 ha site yielded the first wine in the 2007 vintage. The Somervilles have viticultural advice from James Dicey and the wines are made by Dan and Sarah-Kate Dineen at the Maude winery in Wanaka. The wines have achieved good show success from the start, and it will be interesting to see the character of their site and that of the sub-region develop as the vines grow in maturity. Reviewing the 2012 Pinot Noir recently (click here to see my review), I sense an elegant concentration and tautness as being part of the style. Here, I review the new release 2013 Pinot Noir.
