Tiki 2014 ‘Koro’ Chardonnay and Pinot Noir

26-Sep-2016
The Tiki Wine brand of Royce and Sue McKean has grown immensely from their first vintage in 2009. While owning vineyards in Waipara and Marlborough, it is the Marlborough fruit that is providing the McKeans with the most recognition, as the 225 ha planted in the Upper Wairau Valley lends economies of scale. However the Tiki ‘Koro’ wines are the flagships; ‘Koro’ meaning grandfather in Maori, and for the McKeans it refers to Royce’s great grandfather Chief Tiki Tere Mihi. In making these wines, the McKeans have been happy to use their contacts to obtain fruit from outside of Marlborough. Here, I review the 2014 ‘Koro’ Chardonnay from Hawke’s Bay, and the Pinot Noir from Central Otago. www.tikiwine.com
