Thorn-Clarke – Bright in the Barossa Valley

In October last year, I had the pleasure of meeting Helen McCarthy, senior winemaker and James Edwards, market manager for Thorn-Clarke Wines of the Barossa Valley. (Click here to read my report.) The company’s expertise is based on six generations of grapegrowing, and it now own 250 ha of vineyards in various parts of the Barossa, making wine under the Thorn-Clarke label which has become quickly established in the marketplace. It is a bright star in the Barossa Valley. Here, I review three wines under the accessible ‘Sandpiper’ range and the premium ‘Shotfire’ Shiraz, the reds from the excellent 2012 vintage. The wines are distributed in New Zealand by EuroVintage.
