The Elder Pinot is the Martinborough winegrowing venture of Mike and Margaret Hanson, and Nigel and Bridgit Elder, based on 12.15 ha site on the Ruakokapatuna river terraces overlooking the Te Muna Valley. The vineyard set up by the Hansons is planted to 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Pinot Gris. Nigel Elder, a viticulturist with Martinborough Vineyard became familiar with the site and the quality of the fruit that the Hansons and Elders formed a partnership to release their own label with the 2010 vintage. The wines are made by Paul Mason of Martinborough Vineyard.
