TerraVin Sauvignon 2010 Blanc & Chardonnay

16-Aug-2011
There is a new found confidence with Mike Eaton of TerraVin, since late last year since when he has seen a consolidation of his operation. I sensed it at a tasting of his wines in December last year. (Click here to view my report.) Combined with this release of wines from the excellent 2010 and 2011 Marlborough vintages, an exciting time for him over the next couple of years is on the cards. Mike and his wife Jo are well-known for establishing the famous ‘Clayvin' vineyard in the Brancott Valley in 1991. They subsequently sold it in 1998, then purchasing and planting a north-facing 12 ha hillside site in the Omaka Valley. Of this, the Eatons retain 1.25 ha of high-density planted Pinot Noir vines around their house, the ‘Eaton Family Vineyard', but supplement their crush with fruit from nearby family-run sites which have input from their viticultural expertise. While Pinot Noir is the Eaton's recognised area of passion, the quality of the fruit for the other benchmark Marlborough whites shines through. In both Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, TerraVin is expanding the envelope in style and direction. www.terrvin.co.nz
