TerraVin Pinot Noir New Releases

24-Aug-2011
Pinot is the preferred passion for Mike and Jo Eaton. To achieve quality, low yields, perfect picking decisions and the most precise handling in the winery are critical. Mike and his wife Jo established the famous ‘Clayvin' vineyard in the Brancott Valley in 1991. They subsequently sold it in 1998, then purchasing and planting a north-facing 12 ha hillside site in the Omaka Valley. Selling some of this vineyard, the Eatons retain 1.25 ha of high-density planted Pinot Noir vines around their house, the ‘Eaton Family Vineyard', but source fruit from nearby family-run sites which have input from their viticultural expertise. Mike and Jo regard the ‘Eaton Family Vineyard' their best site for Pinot Noir, but any of their single-vineyard bottlings, designed to show site character, are of great interest. They are quite limited in production. The ‘Hillside Reserve' Pinot Noir is a blend of wine chosen from the hillside vineyards, usually the centre of the slopes, created to express the best and most nuanced Pinot Noir possible from the vintage. The production is usually greater than the single vineyard labels. The 2009 is to be put on the market next month, the 2010 same time next year. This review covers the Pinot Noirs appearing soon. www.terravin.co.nz
