Terrace Heights Estate Viognier 2011

09-Jul-2012
With the Terrace Heights Estate (T.H.E.) vineyards planted in 1993 and 1994, Steve Hammond's oldest vines, west of Renwick in Marlborough are mature plants. There has been an increase in the plantings over the years and the estate now has 32 ha of vines. Terrace Heights Estate is focussed on Sauvignon Blanc, with Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir in support. For interest Steve planted a small amount of Viognier, which gave its first crop for his label in 2008. The Terrace Heights Estate is one of the small number of Viognier wines in a region devoted to Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, where there are around only 30 ha of the variety planted. The highly experienced Sam Smail of Whitehaven is the contracted winemaker for Terrace Heights Estate. www.thewine.co.nz
