Terrace Heights Estate 2012 White Releases

25-Oct-2012

Planting vines in 1993 and 1994 west of Renwick, Steve Hammond has two decades of grapegrowing under his belt. His fruit initially went to Whitehaven, but he decided to produce his own label ‘Terrace Heights Estate' with a Sauvignon Blanc in 2002. Made by Sam Smail, winemaker at Whitehaven, the Terrace Heights Estate Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir wines have been models that walk straight down the line, and this approach has earned critical acclaim both in New Zealand and beyond. To make life interesting, Steve planted Viognier, which gave its first crop in 2008, and now he has begun playing with Sauvignon Blanc giving it wood maturation. Terrace Heights Estate is starting to get a bit more exciting. www.thewine.co.nz
