Terrace Edge Waipara Valley Pinot Noir 2014

17-Nov-2015
The Chapman family have enjoyed a spectacular pair of vintages with their Waipara Valley Pinot Noirs, the 2012 winning various top awards and gold medals nationally and internationally. The vintage was one of very slow ripening, the protracted hang time with dry weather producing a wonderful array of flavours with matching freshness. The 2013 growing season was warm and dry producing riper and more fully structured wines which I personally enjoyed even more. This wine has now won its share of awards, indicating the consistent fruit quality that Pete Chapman produces. The 2014 growing season was problematical due to autumn rains requiring picking sooner than preferable, but the good ripening beforehand may have saved the day. My tastings of 2014 Waipara Valley wines initially revealed lighter and less ripe bottlings, but I have been surprised by how many of them have put on weight and become more interesting and complete with time in the bottle. Here is my review of the 2014 Terrace Edge Pinot Noir. www.terraceedge.co.nz
