Terrace Edge Waipara Pinot Noir 2011

06-Jun-2013
The 2011 vintage reds of Terrace Edge are wines that winemaker Dom Maxwell have overseen from the time the fruit was on the vines. Taking over from Belinda Gould, it is fair to say that there are differences noticeable between the wines made by them. As discussed in my review of the Pinot Gris 2012 and Syrah 2011 releases in March this year (click here to see), Belinda’s handiwork delivered wines that were more textural, and immediately complex, whereas Dom’s wines are more pure, fruit-driven and refined. It’s a matter of style preference, as essentially the fruit quality is the same, as nothing has changed with the care and attention Pete Chapman has put into the vineyard and the vines. Ultimately it is the consumer that makes the most important call, but here is my review of the new Pinot Noir 2011, a wine that I was able to taste alongside the 2010 vintage in a preview back in a visit in May 2012 (click here to read). www.terraceedge.co.nz
