Terrace Edge ‘Liquid Geography’ Riesling 2012

14-Aug-2013
The ‘Liquid Geography’ Riesling is part of the exploration of styles that Riesling can provide for the Chapman family from the fruit from their ‘Terrace Edge’ vineyard on Georges Road in the Waipara Valley. It was introduced with the 2011 vintage, along with a limited quantity of a ‘Late-Picked’ Riesling, supplementing their mainstay, the ‘Classic’ Riesling. The name ‘Liquid Geography’ refers to the ability of the Riesling variety to capture the essence of the site and land that it is grown in. The 2011 (click here to see my review) has proven so popular that stocks are exhausted and the 2012 is now released. Pete Chapman reports the 2012 growing season was a little cooler than 2011, and the resultant wine has less botrytis, as well as a few grams per litre less residual sugar. Despite the subtle differences, he reckons "it holds it own”. Here is my review of the 2012. www.terraceedge.co.nz
