Although the Chapman family’s ‘Terrace Edge’ label is best known for its Rieslings, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Syrah, varieties that the Waipara Valley is successful with, a small production of other wines is also made by them, offering variety, and these too have done well. The Sauvignon Blanc fruit is usually contracted to other wineries, but a small quantity has been released under ‘Terrace Edge’. In 2014, Pete Chapman deemed the vintage conditions were suited to the making of a rosé wine from the Syrah fruit. Here, I review the 2014 Sauvignon Blanc and Rosé, made by Gavin Tait at the Muddy Water facility. www.terraceedge.co.nz
