te Pa 2015 Pinot Gris, Rosé and ‘Oke’ Sauvignon Blanc

14-Mar-2016
With over 150 ha of vines, the MacDonald family of te Pa Wines in Marlborough are industry players to watch. The family has farmed the land of the Wairau Bar, next to the coast for generations, but took a bold step in planting vines in 2003 to supply contract fruit to the region’s significant producers. The MacDonalds introduced their own label, ‘te Pa’, with the 2011 vintage. The initial wines were clean and clear-cut varietal bottlings, but as the family and winemakers Liam McElhinney and Sam Bennett are becoming more familiar with the vineyards and fruit, the latest releases are show the intention of building in weight and texture for more serious wines. It will be very interesting to follow the progress. Here, I review the new 2015 Pinot Gris, Rosé and oak-influenced ‘Oke’ Sauvignon Blanc. www.tepawines.com
