Te Awanga Estate ‘Reserve’ Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2014

18-Mar-2016
This is the first release of a wine that honours the resource of a ‘Heritage’ block of 25 y.o. Mendoza clone Chardonnay on the ‘Te Awanga Estate’ vineyard. Rod McDonald and his team realise the asset of these old vines, which will be managed with considerable attention for vine health and longevity. Rod hopes the 25 y.o. vines "will be around for their 50th”. The wine is a special bottling, exclusively from the block, and will be made and released annually, if the fruit is of the appropriate standard. The wine is given the full, ‘tradition’ style winemaking with hand-picking, WBP and wild ferment on full solids and no sulphur additions until October. Here is my review of the 2014 release, there being no 2015. www.rmwines.co.nz
