Surveyor Thomson Central Otago Pinot Noir 2011

The Surveyor Thomson label is dedicated to Central Otago Pinot Noir. David Hall-Jones who has New Zealand’s first Surveyor General as his forebear, and his wife Pui Mun Chan aim to make Pinot Noir that is expressive of their 14 ha Lowburn vineyard and vintage, and wine that reminds them of the land that John Turnbull Johnson explored as a surveyor. While the proprietors are based in Hong Kong as well as owning a vineyard in Gevrey-Chambertin, their dedication to their Central Otago operation is clear, with Dean Shaw making the wine from the inaugural 2003 vintage and with James Dicey looking after the viticulture. Here, I review the new release 2011 wine.
