The ‘Surveyor Thomson' brand is named after David Hall-Jones forebear John Turnbull-Thomson who was New Zealand's first Surveyor General. David and his wife Pui Mun Chan, who are based in Hong Kong also own a home in Gevrey-Chambertin in Burgundy. With a love of Pinot Noir, they established their 14 ha vineyard in the Lowburn district of Central Otago in 2000 with Pommard and Dijon clones. The vineyard is tended by James Dicey, and the wines made by Dean Shaw who made the first release of 2003. I review the new release wines. www.surveyorthomson.co.nz
