Summerhouse Marlborough Verdelho 2013

29-Jul-2014
Summerhouse has become the brand for a range of sophisticated wines for Marlborough’s Spring Creek Vintners. The limited release wines have been developed carefully by winemaker Michael Bann and the Spring Creek Vintners team to provide styles that complement the Rapaura Springs and other brands produced by the company. I’ve been impressed with what has been offered so far, especially the Methode Blanc de Blancs and barrel-fermented Chardonnay and ‘Monarch’ Sauvignon Blanc. Here, I review the Verdelho in the Summerhouse portfolio, made from Marlborough’s first commercially yielding vines of that variety. The first releases of the Verdelho were the 2011 under the Rapaura Springs label (click here to see my review) and the 2012, under the Rapaura Springs ‘Reserve’ label (click here to see my review.) I can see that the winemaking has settled into a positive style for the variety’s expression. www.summerhouse.co.nz
