Stonecroft 2013 White and 2012 Red Releases

15-Nov-2013
The Stonecroft vineyards based in the Gimblett Gravels in Hawke’s Bay are now in their third decade, and the mature vines are producing some of the best fruit and wines in the district. Since Dermot McCollum and Andria Monin took over the Stonecroft reins from Dr Alan Limmer in 2010, there have been ostensibly subtle improvements, mainly in the labelling and marketing to ensure a fresh and familial look. However there have been some more significant advances recently. As of the 2013 vintage, the wines will be labelled organic, the vineyards and winery now certified under ‘AsureQuality’. Also, Demot and Andria added to their Gimblett Gravels holdings in July this year when they purchased a vineyard from Mills Reef Trust, close-planted to Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, the vines originally established by Alan Limmer. It is extremely pleasing to see the continued growth of this top quality label in strong hands. Here, I review the new 2013 white and 2012 Chardonnay and red releases. www.stonecroft.co.nz
