Starborough ‘Single Vineyard’ Awatere Sauvignon Blanc 2012

11-Dec-2012
With the new labelling for the Starborough wines of the Jones family of Marlborough, comes a growing confidence in the business. Last year, the Jones purchased the ‘Long Lane' vineyard in the Dashwood sub-region to supplement their existing ‘Starborough Terrace' plantings near Seddon, and their ‘O'Dwyers Farm vines in the Rapaura district. The new livery to me is more elegant and sophisticated, and allows a clearer distinction between the ‘Family Estate' wines which blend fruit from the different sources, and the ‘Single Vineyard' wines which are individual site expressions. An excellent ‘Single Vineyard' Awatere Pinot Gris was made in 2011 (click here to see my review), and now comes a ‘Single Vineyard' Sauvignon Blanc, the first such release for Starborough. www.starborough.co.nz
