Starborough Marlborough Pinot Gris 2013

18-Dec-2013
Although Sauvignon Blanc comprises the main part of the Jones family 'Starborough' wine production, it is arguably Pinot Gris that has come to the forefront for the brand, winning more than its share of top awards. While a high proportion of Pinot Gris wines are less than characterful, the attention to viticulture by James Jones and the sensitive winemaking by Dave Clouston has resulted in a series of Starborough Pinot Gris that are richer and more interesting than the majority, without having to go down the path of more extreme funkiness. This 2013 vintage is in the classical style, and it is a fine example, as winning the trophy for Champion Pinot Gris at the recent International Aromatics Wine Competition can attest. Here is my review of the wine. www.starborough.co.nz
