Stanley Estates is the Awatere Valley wine venture of Steve Pellett and Bridget Ennals, who purchased 11 ha of land in 2003 to produce wine. Since then they have expanded their holdings to three vineyards with 12.5 ha of Sauvignon Blanc, 3.0 ha of Pinot Noir, 2.2 ha of Pinot Gris, 1.2 ha of Albarino, 1 ha of Lagrein and 0.3 ha of Chardonnay. Steve tends to the vineyards and the contracted winemaker is the very experienced Eveline Fraser. The Stanley Estates wines are growing in recognition, as wine styles, particularly with the Albarino and Lagrein are explored, and the vines grow in maturity. The wines show fine textures and subtle complexing inputs. Here, I review the new 2017 Pinot Gris. www.stanleyestates.co.nz
