The ‘Squealing Pig’ label is a New Zealand brand of Treasury Wine Estates, one of the most influential producers on the international wine scene. The wines are ostensibly stand-alone with a market presence and identity that is fun and appeals to humour. It is easy to think of the brand as another ‘critter’ label, but my experience is that the wines are somewhat more serious and regionally expressive than what the critter genre delivers. This is not surprising as it is the Matua viticultural and winemaking teams that are responsible for the wines. Here, I review the latest releases, a 2014 Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc and 2013 Central Otago Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. www.treasurywineestates.com
