Gavin Yortt has an affinity with the Chardonnay variety and has made some outstanding examples over the years from his Gimblett Gravels fruit. Even in a more challenging vintage, such as 2011, a very creditable Chardonnay was made, showing sensitive handling (click here for my recent review). The demand for his Chardonnay has meant the introduction of a new tier with the 2012 vintage, ‘The Charmer’, sitting a little above ‘The Chatterer’ wines. The new ‘Charmer’ Chardonnay is made with fruit from the wider Hawke’s Bay region, and will be released to complementary channels of distribution. www.squawkingmagpie.co.nz
