Spy Valley and Satellite 2016, and 2015 Envoy Sauvignon Blanc

08-Feb-2017
The Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc brand is New Zealand’s most important wine resource. The variety with around three-quarter of the country’s plantings and the Marlborough region where most of it is grown comprising approx. two-thirds of the vineyard area dominate the industry. The export sales and exceptional global demand for Marlborough Sauvignon is a phenomenon arguably unmatched by any other wine style in modern times. The brand continues to grow, and this has required more tiers at the lower as well as upper levels, and the development of alternative and more complex styles to maintain interest. Spy Valley, a quintessential Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc producer has done just that, with their more accessible ‘Satellite’ brand, and more complex ‘Envoy’ limited bottlings that support the main ‘Spy Valley’ brand. Here, I review the 2016 Satellite and Spy Valley Sauvignon Blancs, and the oak-influenced 2015 ‘Envoy’ Sauvignon Blanc. www.spyvalleywine.co.nz
