Spinyback 2016 Nelson Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Riesling

09-Dec-2016
The Spinyback brand is the secondary label of Waimea Estates in Nelson. The fruit is from the company’s estate vineyards on the Waimea Plains grown for the label but also utilises that which is not selected for the premium label, more on stylistic parameters than quality level. The Spinyback wines are made in a more accessible style, but have a very good track record in wine competitions reflecting the healthy fruit and sensitive winemaking. The Spinyback name refers to the Tuatara ‘living fossil’ and proceeds from sales of the wine go towards education about and conservation of the species. Here, I review the 2016 Spinyback Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Riesling. www.waimeaestates.co.nz
