Spade Oak ‘Voysey’ 2015 Rosé and Pinot Gris, and 2014 Chardonnay

The Spade Oak label of Steve and Eileen Voysey in Gisborne continues to grow in market presence with each passing year. Much of the success is due to the accessibility of the ‘Voysey’ tier, the most affordable of their ranges. The ‘Voysey’ wines may be sourced from fruit beyond the estate vineyard in Gisborne, but are made with the same technical skills by Steve as with the top of the range ‘Vigneron’ and premium ‘Heart of Gold’ labels. Steve is the consummate winemaker with over 20 years of experience, and is particularly adept at blending. His wines are always carefully crafted to achieve the particular balance in flavour profile and mouthfeel he desires, and to suit the market they are targeting. Here, I review the latest ‘Voysey’ releases, the 2015 Rosé and Pinot Gris, and 2014 Chardonnay, all from Gisborne fruit.
