Rachael Carter has developed her SOHO Wine Co. labels to be multi-tired to be able to work in practically all reseller channels. A few wines sourced fruit from organic certified sites and made to be vegan friendly.

The 'Black Collection' is the premium range; the range shows fine quality and age-worthiness.

The 'Pink Sheep' range has just recently been rebranded, 50c of each bottle sales donates to nominated charities, so far over $50,000 has been donated to 3 charities, and they have just added their 4th charity. This range is bright and vibrant, and the quality shows across the range.

The 'White Collection' range is for On-Premise (the Generation-Y range), they are affordable, clean and straightforward.

Rachael’s other approach is to have three different growing regions – Waiheke Island, Marlborough and Central Otago, with three dedicated winemakers in each region – James Rowan, Dave Clouston and Grant Taylor. All these factors have resulted in a marvellous portfolio.

Bright, pale yellow with a slight lime hue, even colour throughout. The bouquet is bright and inviting, aromas of gooseberries, pineapples, limes melded with fragrant florals and fresh herbs. Vibrant aromas of pineapples, gooseberries and lime have a concentrated core. A soft and fragrant note of elderflower complimenting the fruit and lingers with subtle spice and fresh herbs to a lively finish. Thirst-quenching acidity carries stony minerals and fine-textured phenolic flows with good energy and vitality. Bright, straw-yellow with some depth, slightly watery clear on the rim. The bouquet is elegantly full, fragrant aromas of Nashi pear, quince, entwined with mouthwatering minerals and delicate white florals. Medium-bodied, dry-ish to taste, Nashi pear, quince and apple skins form a good core. Fragrant white florals unfolding, along with spices and mouthwatering minerals lingers to a satisfying dry finish. Fine-textured phenolic added to the slightly unctuous palate provided breath and body. Fresh acidity contributed good energy and balance, drive the wine to a lingering textural finish. This is an elegantly full-flavoured Pinot Gris with good acid balance and a textural mouthfeel. Match with pulled pork and smoked duck breast over the next 3-4 years. The nose is coy, softly penetrating nuances of lemon balm, grapefruit, stonefruit, smoky gunflint and a light note of cream, underlying mouthwatering minerals. Medium-bodied, the palate is lean and elegantly presented, aromas of lemon, grapefruit and zest are interwoven with lemon biscuit, flintiness and cream. Flavours are well in proportion, on a fine-textured chalky mineral line, refine and elegant. Acidity is soft and lacy, integrated and tightly bound with primary fruit and exquisite oak element, supported by underlying alcohol power, lingers to a sustained finish. This is an elegantly supple Chardonnay with integrated aromas of citrus fruit, lemon biscuit and flinty notes, on a fine-textured mineral drive. Bright, even, light lemon with a lime hue. The bouquet is soft and pretty, nuances of honey lemon, melded with lime, cream soda with an underlay of floral fragrance and nettle. Medium-light bodied, off-dry to taste, lemon and grapefruit have good weight, interweave with honey, jasmine tea and pollen on the palate. The wine is soft with a slightly rounded mouthfeel, reminiscent of a cream soda. Vibrant acidity carries the wine with good energy. Bright, pale ruby-red with a neon-shade, even colour throughout. The bouquet has a rich tone of deeper florals, unfolding ripe field strawberries, cherries flavoured boiled sweets note. Medium-bodied, dry-ish to taste, ripe field strawberries, cherries have a good core, along with lemon sherbet, rose petals and delicate spices linger to a textural finish. The mouthfeel is opulent, very fine phenolic grip on a smooth flow with vibrant acidity. This is a medium-bodied rosé with lush red fruit, lively acidity on a textural palate. Deep, ruby-purple with some transparency, slightly lighter on edge. The bouquet is elegantly-full, nuances of red cherries, raspberries, plums are very aromatic, interweave with floral fragrances, dark herbs, very appealing. Medium-bodied, aromas of plums, cherries intermixed with raspberries, subtly earthy, savoury notes; along with dark herbs and spices. Liquorice nuances unfold as it aerated. Silky tannin extraction provides a velvety mouthfeel. A complex range of flavours are well-proportioned, integrated harmoniously. Fine-grained oak added a slightly smoky element, lingers to a long, sustained finish. This is a harmonious Pinot Noir with well-proportioned fruit and savoury elements on a velvety tannin mouthfeel. The bouquet is softly full, elegantly penetrating nuances of red plums, red berries, entwined with smoked meat, tobacco and a herbaceous underlay. Medium-full bodied, bright nuances of red plums and berries are supported by lacy acidity. Integrated aromas of smoked meat, tobacco contributes to the breadth of the palate, subtle herbaceous notes of peppermint and black pepper linger on the finish.
