SOHO Wine Co. 2015 Marlborough Whites, Waiheke Rosé and 2014 Revolver

It is fascinating to see how some wines present themselves positively immediately, often straight after bottling, while others suffer ‘bottle shock’ and need some time to settle down before it’s worthwhile tasting them. The winemakers are usually the best judge of the state of their wines, and if they have the ability to hold back a wine before release so as to have it at its best possible look, then it’s beneficial for the consumer as well as the brand. Often, commercial pressures demand the release of wines so they don’t lose their place on listings and shelves. My observations to date are that the 2015 Marlborough whites look good now, soon after vintage. I’m sure Dave Clouston, SOHO’s Marlborough winemaker would be happy to see the 2015 ‘White Collection’ and ‘Jagger’ Pinot Gris, and ‘Stella’ Sauvignon Blanc out there. Likewise, James Rowan must be happy with his 2015 ‘Westwood’ and 2014 ‘Revolver’ from Waiheke Island being commercialised (as well as the 2015 ‘Maren’ Marlborough Riesling which he made). Here, I review the wines.

  • SOHO ‘White Collection’ Marlborough Pinot Gris 2015
  • SOHO ‘Jagger’ Marlborough Pinot Gris 2015
  • SOHO ‘Stella’ Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2015
  • SOHO ‘Maren’ Marlborough Riesling 2015
  • SOHO ‘Westwood’ Waiheke Island’ Rosé 2015
  • SOHO ‘Revolver’ Waiheke Island Merlot/Cabernet Franc/Malbec 2014
