SOHO 2016 Maren Riesling, and 2015 Jonny Chardonnay and Bobby Pinot Noir

Rachael Carter’s SOHO brand is growing in diversity. The Marlborough wines in particular show the progress. Dave Clouston is the nominated Marlborough winemaker who has produced a full bevy of varietals at different aspirational tiers. Just recently SOHO introduced the ‘Generation Y Collection’ to sit between the accessible ‘White Collection’ and premium ‘Black Collection’ levels, but these wines aimed at the on-premise market. Rachael Carter has also brought in James Rowan, the company’s Waiheke Island winemaker to make the ‘Maren’ Marlborough Riesling, in addition to the Riesling wine that is made by Dave Clouston. James is familiar with Marlborough fruit, and Riesling is a passion for him, so his bottling offers a difference. Here, I review the 2016 ‘Maren’ Riesling, and the 2015 ‘Jonny’ Chardonnay and ‘Bobby’ Pinot Noir, the latter two wines part of the ‘Generation Y Collection’.
