Silver Wing Waipara 2013 Reserve Pinot Gris

Andrew Fox established his ‘Silver Wing’ Waipara Valley label in 2010 after contracting fruit supply and renting winery space to make his first wines with the 2011 vintage. He learnt his trade with producers in New Zealand and overseas and his philosophy is about respecting the fruit, but he is not afraid of using adventurous inputs such as wild ferments, skin contact and batonnage. I’ve reviewed several of his wines over the last year, and show interesting complexities that offer a point of difference. I see them as ‘winemakers’ wines’, as it helps to know how the wines are made to appreciate them fully. Here, I review the 2013 ‘Knee Trembler’ ‘Reserve’ Pinot Gris.
