Sileni ‘Estates Selection’ 2016 ‘Straits’, ‘Ridge’, and 2015 ‘Alba’ and ‘Springstone’

The premium wines of Sileni Estates come in the ‘Estates Selection’ tier and carry names that are distinctive to the provenance of the fruit or style. Made in relatively limited quantities, they feature individual character and quality, and enable the production team of chief winemaker Grant Edmonds, white winemaker Nigel Davies, and red winemaker Cairn Coghill to express site, regional style and innovation. Here, I review four diverse ‘Estate Selection’ wines demonstrating these traits. The ‘Springstone’ Pinot Noir was tasted as a barrel-sample in June (click here to see my report), and since bottling and some time in bottle, it has built up in structure and complexity. The Pinot Noir programme at Sileni is aiming for greater heights.
