Sileni Estates 2016 ‘Cellar Selection’ Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris

Established by medical publisher Graeme Avery in 1997, Sileni Estates had its first vintage in 1998 in Hawke’s Bay. The company has experienced enormous growth from a 4,000 cases production to over 750,000 cases made annually, sourcing fruit from Marlborough as well as Hawke’s Bay. Graeme and Gaby Avery’s sons Nigel and Simon are fully involved in management positions, as CEO and business manager respectively. Now in more than 80 export markets, the brand has global reach. At the heart of the Sileni range are the ‘Cellar Selection’ wines, made to express classical varietal and regional character. Here, I review the 2016 ‘Cellar Selection’ Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc and Hawke’s Bay Pinot Gris.
