Sherwood ‘Waipara Collection’ 2013 Pinot Noir and Syrah, and 2011 LH Chardonnay

23-Aug-2016
Dayne and Jill Sherwood operate a very successful wine business from the Waipara Valley that sees value and premium wines exported around the globe as well as making their mark on the domestic market. These wines are classical expressions of variety and region. However, as with any serious winemaking venture, they have a tier of wines that represent innovation in style and winemaking and special sites that deliver individual and highly characterful, quality wines. For Sherwood Estate, these are the ‘Waipara Collection’ which show what the region can achieve in making something very noteworthy. Here, I review the 2013 ‘Nor’wester’ Pinot Noir and ‘R D 1’ Syrah, these wines named after ‘rural icons’ of Waipara and the ‘Heritage Collection’ 2011 ‘Golden Drought’ Late Harvest Chardonnay which is a tribute to the country’s pioneers. www.sherwood.co.nz
