Sherwood Estate ‘Stratum’, ‘Stoney Range’ and ‘Sherwood’ Releases

08-Sep-2016
Producing wines since 1987, Sherwood Estate is one of the larger independent, family-owned wineries in New Zealand. The estate owns over 80 ha of vineyards, five in the home base of Waipara in North Canterbury, and three in Marlborough. Proprietors Dayne and Jill Sherwood are especially proud that they oversee every aspect of the business from the growing of grapes, making of wine and the selling in the market. Around half of the production is exported to 26 different markets. The heart of the Sherwood portfolio is the ‘Estate’ range, marked by the ‘Sherwood’ signature on the label. The ‘Stoney Range’ wines are modern expressions and the ‘Stratum’ brand offers accessibility. The rarer wines are in the ‘Waipara Collection’ and show innovative techniques. Here, I review a selection of new releases under the ‘Stratum’ and ‘Stoney Range’ tiers, one of which is a red sourced from South Australian fruit, plus a ‘Sherwood Estate’ bottling. www.sherwoodestate.co.nz
