Seifried and Old Coach Road 2016 and 2015 Releases

01-Feb-2017
The story of the establishment of Seifried Estate in Nelson is one of the most inspiring and endearing of the New Zealand wine industry. Hermann and Agnes Seifried planted their first grapes in the Moutere district in 1973, making their first wines in the 1976 vintage. Through sheer determination and hard work, they grew their wine venture to be one of the region and South Island’s most significant family-owned winegrowing businesses. Four decades later, Hermann and Agnes are still fully involved, but their company is effectively run by their three children Heidi, Chris and Anna, from their winery, administration, cellar door and restaurant complex at Rabbit Island. Seifried Estate has over 250 ha of vineyards and exports to over 20 countries. While growing and making the classically successful varieties, Seifried Estate offers a number of innovative styles under the ‘Aotea’, ‘Winemakers Collection’, ‘Seifried’ and ‘Old Coach Road’ brands. All of the wines offer real value. Here I review two 2016 Old Coach Road wines, and four Seifried Estate releases from 2016 and 2015 showing the core of the range. www.seifried.co.nz
