Saint Clair 2015 Premium and Pioneer Block 25 Sauvignon Blancs

08-Dec-2015
The 2015 Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc vintage has already given up some superb wines. The balanced, ripe, aromatic and flavour profiles are sensational, the fruit extremely healthy, and the lower yields, especially compared to the previous year have given wines with palates of substance. Yet the best wines have an accessibility and vitality second to none. It may be too early to call if 2015 will be one of the great years for Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, but the portents are good.

The Saint Clair 2015 Sauvignon Blancs have only now come onto the market. Their quality and style are benchmarkers for Marlborough. Here’ I review the ‘Premium’ bottling, and the newest ‘Pioneer Block 25 – Point Five’, the name referring to its unique location, only half a metre above sea level. The site experiences cooler temperatures and the fruit has a longer growing season lending what is considered by the Saint Clair team incredible fruit intensity. www.saintclair.co.nz
