Rock Ferry 2014 ‘3rd Rock’ Riesling and Pinot Gris, Orchard Pinot Blanc and Trig Hill Pinot Gris

25-Oct-2016
Half-way though this year Tom and Fiona Hutchison rebranded their Rock Ferry ‘Estate’ wines to ‘3rd Rock’ which aligns them closer to the labels of the ‘Single Vineyard’ wines which feature the Fibonacci sequence, showing mathematical growth patterns in natural phenomenon such as the silver fern and nautilus shell. But the philosophies of running the company’s certified BioGro Marlborough and Central Otago vineyards to organic and biodynamic regimes remain the same. Tom and Fiona have the very experienced Allan McWilliams as their winemaker, producing a very diverse and technically sophisticated range of quality wines. Here, I review four new 2014 vintage aromatic releases, the ‘3rd Rock’ Riesling and Pinot Gris from Marlborough fruit, and the ‘Orchard Vineyard Marlborough Pinot Blanc and Trig Hill Central Otago Pinot Gris. www.rockferry.co.nz
