RD Central Otago Pinot Noir 2014 and 2013

12-May-2016
Central Otago has been the happy hunting ground for wine entrepreneurs purchasing lots of wine for bottling and selling under their own labels. With a plethora of vineyards, growers and labels, many producers have not been able to gain sufficient traction to market and sell all their wine at the preferred price levels. Often the fruit or wine is of high quality, but when the wine is sold off as clean-skins, invariably the pricing is much lower than what the original wine was aimed to be. Confidentiality is the name of the game here, as the original owners wish no harm come to their brand, so the identity of the vineyard source and the winemaker responsible is usually kept secret. Here I review two Central Otago Pinot Noirs, made from fruit from a quality vineyard in the Bannockburn region, by a respected contract winemaker, labelled and sold by Pete Thomson of Southern Wine Distributors Ltd.
