Raymond Chan was inducted posthumously into New Zealand Wine Hall of Fame by the Royal Easter Wine Show on the 9th March 2019. This was awarded for a life time of Championing wine through wine judging, writing and mentoring aspiring wine judges. Raymond had a high public persona from his numerous Wine Tastings through the years that were for both expect and beginner and all in between. Raymond ran many Corporate Wine Options around Wellington plus frequently visited Wine Clubs that gave him a high public profile. Raymond judged wine from 1988, his first being The Royal Easter Show, proving he was no ‘random’ Gold Generator! Raymond received respect from wine makers both those entering the industry and those who had been in the industry for many years. He was unique in that he could create a verbal bridge between the wines, the wine makers and the public as he had their total belief in his amazing palate. If he gave a wine 20 out 20 – it was a wine worth seeking out. It was sad he did not know this award was coming up but we can be proud for him.
