
Rudi Bauer is one of the most experienced Central Otago winemakers, having started his time in the region with Rolfe and Lois Mills at Rippon in Wanaka. He began Quartz Reef in 1996 in partnership with Trevor Scott and John Perriam and now has 30 ha of vines in the Bendigo district, gaining Demeter Biodynamic certification in 2011.
Quartz Reef is famous for its method traditionally, a few of the best in the country and the quintessential Bendigo Pinot Noir expression. Pinot Gris is often underestimated for its ability to age, and 2021 Pinot Gris is one to watch.
