Quarter Acre Hawke’s Bay Viognier 2014

The Viognier variety appears to have lost the impetus of growth it experience a few short years ago. Maybe consumers have been put off by the difficulty in pronouncing it? Yet it remains a variety that can deliver exotic character and palate satisfaction, the wine often possessing considerable power while being immediately accessible. It is a proven success with modern cuisine, from Pacific Rim to Asian and Middle Eastern fare, and it handles diverse foods from seafood, poultry and white meats easily. Thank goodness there are a number of New Zealand producers committed to making serious and sophisticated Viogniers.
