Quarter Acre Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2014

06-Apr-2016
The ‘Quarter Acre’ brand of Rod McDonald is the realisation of one of his dreams about making wine in New Zealand. The Kiwi dream of owning one’s own quarter acre section is still dear to the heart of New Zealanders, and with Rod’s winemaking, it is the representation of his ability to work with the Syrah varietal in his home of Hawke’s Bay. His dream came to fruition with the Rod McDonald ‘Trademark’ Syrah 2011, a wine that is stunningly good (see my review here), but is the start of his journey. His more accessible approach to realising his dream is in his Quarter Acre Syrah. Here, I review the 2014 release. www.rmwines.co.nz
